The Chief of Army Lieutenant General Gillespie has taken the opportunity to speak to soldiers about the new clothing and equipment while visiting Australian troops in Afghanistan.
Some of the prototypes and demo sample LtGen Gillespie had was new camouflage clothing, known as mid-pattern DPCU (disruptive pattern camouflage uniform) ones desired by the special forces. LtGen Gillespie also mentioned about current body armour called MCBAS (modular combat body armour system) although very high-level of protection against small arms and blasts but it is very heavy about 11kg and not suitable for every situation. So defence has developed new body armour called TBAS (tiered body armour system) which when it will be finally complete will only weigh about 5kg and will be on issue this year. This new body armour can serve with both smaller and larger plates and ammunition pouches depending on the mission requirement.
