Australia has always called itself to be living and practising democracy. Like in the past, on the 21st of August 2010 it also organised an expensive election funded by taxpayers recently where about 14 million Australians went to vote to choose the person and the government of their choice. An opportunity where they can express their desire in choosing the person and the government who they believe will be good and the right one for the country.
But today, all those 14 million votes of Australian people came to no account, more than 500,000 votes win meant nothing and extra seat win was of no account. So, whoever the independent MPs sides on and says forms the government and that party forms the government? So, what is the point of spending large and expensive sum of taxpayers’ money to organise an election only to disregard the choice of the people, vote and the say of the millions when you want to listen to individual independent MP(s).
Today Labor has announced to form the government simply because independent sided with Labor. But they were not the choice of the majority of Australian people, they did not vote for this government. Democracy means rule of the people, it is supposed to be based on the desire of the majority and not individual. So, where is democracy? Where is the ‘rule of the people?’ Well, it is dead.
