Young police officer, Constable William Crews, 26, was shot dead during drug operation in Bankstown, Sydney’s West

26-year-old Constable Crews, police officer attached to the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad was shot in his head and his neck when he was executing search warrant relating to the sale of prohibited drugs on a unit on Cairds Avenue Bankstown in Sydney’s southwest.
The officer was given a first aid at the scene before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital by an ambulance in a critical condition. But the officer who was shot during search operation last night about 9pm has died this morning. The shooting sparked a major police operation with heavily armed police swarming to the area including the members of the dog squad and riot police, all the nearby streets were blocked and police helicopter flying above the sky.
Constable William Crews, who graduated from Goulbourn Police Academy in 2007 served at Campsie Local Area Command before moving to the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad earlier this year was originally from Glen Innes, northern NSW.
Two men will face court today charged over the shooting with intent to murder 26-year-old police officer Constable William Crews and with possessing an unauthorised firearm. Both men were refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court today.
