Police officer charged over Perth bush fire

56-year-old police officer, Robert James Stevens has been charged by summons over the Perth hills bushfire. Officer Stevens of Roleystone has been charged with carrying out an activity in the open air that could likely cause a fire.
The officer who is currently on leave was off-duty at the time of the incident which destroyed 72 houses and damaged another 32 houses in Perth. He has been summoned to appear in Armadale Magistrate’s Court on the 15th of March 2011. The maximum penalty is $25,000 fine or 12 months jail.
