Thousands of Australian are trapped in Europe caused by the mass grounding of aircraft across Europe after the spread of ash from the eruption of a volcano in Iceland. Hundreds and thousands of flights has been cancelled and travellers have been warned of delays and could be lasting for days.
This is the biggest airspace closure since the September 11 in the year 2001 terrorist attack in World Trade Centre, New York USA. Thousands of flights has been cancelled and airport officials decideds to cancel more flights as it it too dangerous for aircraft to fly through the clouds of volcanic ashes that is hovering over the skies of Europe. The volcanic ash not visible from the ground as it has drifted up to an altitude of about 8-10 kilometers can be highly dangerous for aircraft as it can clog up the engines and reduce visibility.
Qantas has warned for long delays on flights to and from Europe. Qantas flights like: QF2 which was due to leave Heathrow this morning via Bangkok to Sydney has been grounded and likewise QF10 flying to Melbourne via Singapore has also been grounded. Passengers would be provided with food and accommodation if need until the delays are over.
