The Delhi Commonwealth Games has been thrown in confusion after the footbridge near the main stadium collapsed. Doubts have been raised about India’s ability to protect thousands of athletes and spectators from terrorist attacks.
India won the bid to host this year’s Commonwealth Games seven years ago and has poured more than $3 billion to host the event, the biggest sports event in the history of this nation.
The opening ceremony nearing closer with less then two weeks to go and many facilities are still work in progress. Athletes have complained about the accommodation in the village where they are to be housed for several days during the games is filthy, uninhabitable and not fit for humans. In reference to the accommodation the Games organisers said 60 to 70  percent was ready and the rest will be ready within 36 hours, just before the village is due to be opened to the athletes.
But, the collapsing of 100-meter overhead footbridge, which connected to a parking lot with the main stadium, the venue to host opening and closing ceremonies has put the Delhi Commonwealth Games, India’s ever biggest sports event in chaos. The collapsed of the bridge has left at least 27 people injured and four of them serious.
But it gets worst as some of the Australian Television crew filmed the backstreet trade in ammonium nitrate and range of other powerful explosives from illegal stores in Delhi. Another man providing personal mobile service in parking area illegally offering to sale remote detonation kit built in a suitcase.
Security risk is high, Australia has warned its citizens over the incident and to be vigilant. Some Australian athletes have pulled out of the Games and other are considering including many athletes from other Commonwealth nations.
