An Australia soldier who was killed during a fierce firefight in southern Afghanistan has been named as Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney. Lance Corporal MacKinney who was married to Beckie MacKinney and father of one was with other Australian soldiers on patrol in Tarin Kowt with Afghan forces when his group came under fire by Taliban insurgents.
28-year-old Lance Corporal MacKinney has been remembered as a loving father and husband. His wife Beckie said, “He was really the best husband and we shared the most amazing 11 years together.” Mrs. MacKinney is pregnant with the couple’s second child. Lance Corporal MacKinney’s mother Jane described her son as patriotic and dedicated to his job for his country.
