Australian Military Chief Says Progress Made in Afghanistan

Australian troops have been part of multi-national force in Afghanistan since the end of 2001. About 1,500 Australian soldiers are there in Afghanistan helping to fight the militants and training the local forces and assisting in civilian construction.
Defence force officials say more armoured vehicles would be provided to the Australian troops in Afghanistan for the protecting of the troops and which will enable them with more mobility, firepower and support to conduct combat and operations. Government will be spending about $300 million on new armoured vehicles.
