28-year-old Australian soldier dies in Afghanistan during three hours clash with Taliban insurgents

28-year-old Australian soldier has been killed in an intense three-hour firefight with Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan. Lance Corporal who died in the battle was from Brisbane-Based 6 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment. Soldier’s name has not been published as his family specifically requested that his name be not released at this stage.
28-year-old Lance Corporal who was married and had a young family was part dismounted patrol patrolling the green zone in western part of Oruzgan region in southern Afghanistan when his group came under fire by number of insurgents.
The soldier was given immediate first aid support but was unable to be saved. No other Australia or Afghan soldier casualties were reported. Brisbane-based Lance Corporal was an experienced soldier who was o his fourth operational deployment and second tour of Afghanistan. He is the 21st Australian soldier to die in Afghanistan.
