Natalie Wood, an elderly woman who lived alone had been dead for eight years in her Sydney home. Sydney woman aged 86 had died alone with no family members apart from her late brother’s wife, who finally alerted the police yesterday, as something had happened within the family this week.
The elderly lady Wood was still receiving Centrelink payments, which was being sent to her bank account and all those payments were untouched. Electricity to the house was turned off. Local Council rates on her Surry Hills home were not being paid. Yet, no one, especially the government department or staff linked to this elderly lady in terms of Centrelink payments and council rates were either blind or careless in their job and duties or just another lazy government staff.
Whatever the case may have been, this is definitely a sad case for elderly people to die alone and for eight long years. Government should establish a semi-government department, government funded yet independent from the government, department that will look after this sort of issues.
